Weekly Newsletter 10-12

Hello Parents!

This week was a busy one in Kachol Hebrew! We have finally started our Hebrew Book, Journeys through the Siddur: Shabbat at Home. This week, we learned all about the importance of candles to Shabbat and holidays.

We also took a long time reviewing "roots." We began with a conversation about root words in English. The students seemed to have a very strong grasp of this concept, and how things like prefixes, and suffixes help us to form words. This led us into a conversation about how we can apply these things to Hebrew. We did a bit of "detective work" to find Hebrew roots in some words we already knew, and some that we had never heard before.

Our first lesson has the students exploring the Hebrew root for "command." This is a VERY tricky root with both a vav and a hey in it, but the students did a great job in class of finding all of the vocabularly words with this three letter root in them. For homework, they will practice reading some of these words aloud, and begin to explore the other vocabularly words from the candle blessing.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!

Best,

Stacy
