Shalom Aleichem, Patterns, and Roots!

Dear Kachol Hebrew Parents (and students!)

This week we continued our in depth study of Shalom Aleichem. We have been working very hard on recognizing the patterns and what they patterns mean.

The students worked on mastering one section in groups and teaching it to the rest of the class. This really helped them to see that the prayer itself is repetitive.

We also continued our study of Hebrew roots. Each student now has a Hebrew Root Book that they keep at school. This book contains each of the roots that we learn, and all of the vocabularly words that are attached to that root. We have focused much of our learning of vocabularly on the idea that all Hebrew words come from roots that share a meaning. So far, the students have done a great job of recognizing words and figuring out what root they belong to.

For homework, I'd like to see the students continue to practice reading Shalom Aleichem at home. Please remember to have them fill out their reading raffle cards. If they need extras, they can be downloaded on the TOS website.

On a separate note, this Friday night is Shabbat Mishpacha featuring our JOSTYites (7th and 8th graders). It would be wonderful if you could join us for this wonderful Shabbat opportunity. After a service led by our 7th and 8th graders, we will join together for dinner. The next Shabbat Mishpacha, on January 21st, will actually feature our 3rd and 4th graders, so it would be great for them to see how the older partcipate before your students lead a service next month.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Best,

Stacy
